Feeling overwhelmed?
Written by WILHELM HAST on December 11th, 2018
Affected by the dark winter days? Or perhaps you have too much to do? Or you have demanding people all around you?

"Between stimulus and response is a space. In this space there is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our development and our freedom."

This quote is attributed to Viktor Frankl, an Austrian psychiatrist and holocaust survivor.

Between stimulus and response is a space...
What does that mean?

During the week I mused on this perspective and here are some reflections.
Between what happens and your reaction there is a space.
This space is more primal and more organic than your reactions.
The space is what is present before your thoughts pop up and fill the space.
The space is not empty, it carries life qualities that I noticed that people easily recognize - if they slow down a little bit.

If we manage to catch ourselves in a reaction and are aware that we overreacted, and you can instead stop, calm down and slow down, then you will recognize what happens next.
• Calm, confidence and clarity
• Things look simpler and easier
• We see solutions

And, if we reflect a little more, we recognize this space as a fundamental element of life and of being human, not as something to accomplish or achieve.
If you feel affected, all that is happening is that you are in a reaction and have lost contact with the space.

In the space (between stimulus and response) one is not affected. Things are as they are. Light, difficult, challenging, lovely ...

Winter darkness, too much to do before Christmas, demanding people around you?
Slow down and consider ... that before your thoughts about all this, or anything else existing in your world, there is a space.

Noting that space is the beginning of all great leadership, friendship and parenting.

Slow down and have a really good week!

Greetings,
Wilhelm
